Welcome to another awesome edition of the Light house!!!
Thanking for clicking again and again. I am really grateful to you all.
And if it’s your first time clicking, I am almost giddy with excitement and blowing kisses your way.
During this year’s cross over service, we were told to come to church with our prayer requests written on paper. As usual.
I WENT WITH A BLANK PAPER!
No, I wasn’t walking in “faith”. No, I wasn’t laying myself down at the altar of God to be used whichever way he pleases.
I was tired! Very tired!
Let me tell you why.
Year after year, it had become almost a “custom” to be told to have prayer requests for the year with prophecies reeling out form different corners of the world and then we would all shout a resounding “Amen” with butterflies gushing in our bellies for what the year had in store for us.
Boom! It’s time for end of the year thanksgiving.
Again, we would be told to come and share our testimonies and people would come out testifying how the prophecy came to pass in their lives, how what was said during the course of the year changed their lives, and how their prayer requests were all crossed and those good stuffs.
I would be seated there wondering; “Is God not supposed to be rich unto all?”, “Weren’t we in same service together?”, “Maybe my sins were too much” 😂😂😂
After a while, I gave up all together. Like, I am not doing again, let me just go through the year without any expectation. At least that way, I would be safe from disappointments right?
But No! I was totally wrong. I have learnt that my predicament may make my actions seem justified but that was definitely not the right way to go about it.
Have you ever wondered why you would attend same seminars, conferences, webinars and different learning platforms with some other people but they would yield numerous results and come back with testimonies while you still have literally nothing to show for it?
Maybe and just maybe, we were in the same place. Just like I was, you are becoming skeptical about these platforms and you are silently thinking, “they must be lying, it’s a scam”.
My mission here today is simple. I have come to share with you on how to leave the skepticism zone to the results zone.
Like I said in the last blog post on “Take Responsibility” (Please click here if you are yet to digest it) https://lovethelighthouse.wordpress.com/2020/04/15/take-responsibility/, our growth and change is largely our responsibility.
The conveners of conferences, seminar organizers, coaches, mentors and pastors will not do for you what you gotta do for yourself.
Don’t be like the old me.
I would keep list of prayer requests in my bible all year long and somehow still expect sudden miracles.
I would go for a seminar and come back with my mind bubbling up with exciting knowledge. However, the minute I step out the door, that’s it. The end. Capiche.
Now, I have realized that so many factors determine whether the information or knowledge we receive at any point in our life is converted to usable energy. The kind of energy that yields expected results.
And Yes! I would be sharing them with you. You already know I’m awesome like that 😉😉😉.
First, Desire and Expectations
Far too many of us attend services, seminars, conferences, webinars with literally no EXPECTATION OR DESIRE.
Sometimes, our attendance is only to fulfill “religious” rights. Or because someone we know is going. Sometimes , we even read books just for bragging rights.
Thing is, you have to be hungry for knowledge for it to come to you. You have to be able to use your imagination to generate anticipation before you attend any learning platform. You need to answer the questions:
Why am I planning to attend this conference?
What do I intend to gain from this seminar?
Why am I reading this book?
Desire and expectations pumps us up with the required receptive attitude and stimulate our brains for focus. Remember how you are super eager to see a movie and you just don’t want to miss any part when you’ve seen the movie’s trailer???
It’s easier to fall prey for distractions when we are without expectations. It’s easy for our minds to wander and be carried away when we are without desire in our hearts. And we are more likely to miss out of powerful insights and vital knowledge that way.
The level of expectation I’m talking about here is not how eloquent the speaker is, how blinding the décor is or how many amazing people you are going to meet.
While these things can help in building our expectation morale, It’s important to train our minds to expect something cogent and life-changing
“Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of the event”
– Brian Tracy
Remember, God’s word says the “expectation” of the righteous shall not be cut short but then, the righteous has got to have an “expectation”.
Endeavour to always write down or have in mind at least 3 things you expect to receive or gain when you are attending or doing anything.
This makes a whole lot of difference and I can assure you, you would be better for it.
To be continued!
Thank you so much for staying till the end.
This was really a long one.
Please, do well to stay tuned and watch out for the next edition which would be the concluding part.
